Excellent for touring with friends because it is easy to handle around corners and hills, and the brakes are very reliable. The bike can struggle if a pillion passenger is over 65kgs, but it is still capable to completing the task with a passenger. I ride it 5 days a week at a distance of 25kms to work in the city from home in the suburbs. It takes only 6 seconds to get from 0-100km/hr. It is very fast with an engine capacity of 500cc. I have had this bike for over 2 years and it is very reliable and comfortable. I can easily get 450km from one tank of premium unleaded fuel. Suzuki GS500F is great for riders who live far from work. *Still small enough to lane filter and get to the front at lights. *Good power, can get up hills without struggling, overtakes, get's away from traffic, as said pretty good on the freeway. Way more stable, sat on 110 comfortably, less vibration, smoother. the ride on the freeway back to Melbourne compared to the VTR was chalk and cheese. I'm about 100kg, 5'10" bought the bike from Bendigo. I went to this bike after learning on a CB125 (way too small), then buying a Honda VTR250 (still too small imo).

Not only is the GS500 a good first bike, after a year I'm completely satisfied with it and have no plans to upgrade so I cou. With proper body position it can be leaned 50 degree with no problems. I was of the opinion maybe this bike couldn't be leaned very far, but it certainly can. What I'd add is get rid of the BT45 bias ply tyres, the best tyres for this bike are Michelin Pilot Street Radials.
